What is a custom made orthotic device?

What is a custom made orthotic device

By definition, the shape and function of each custom orthotic is unique.

At the start of the digital process, the prescriber captures the patient’s geometry using 3D scans obtained directly from the patient or indirectly by scanning impression boxes or plaster casts. Additionally, we record the patient’s prescription using a dynamic digital order form.

Once the scan is cleaned and smoothed, this provides an ideal foundation for creating the orthotic.  We then assess the foot shape and implement the biomechanical corrections, modifications, and adjustments specified in the prescription. The design process also considers whether the scan is weight-bearing, and whether a 100% contact device is required.

At Taika3D we apply corrections based on the design philosophy of the prescriber and the company providing the devices. The design system ensures that this combination of rules is applied consistently and reliably for each unique orthotic.

This process ensures that the orthotic precisely meets specific needs, guaranteeing that every orthotic is both functional and comfortable and truly unique to each patient.

We believe that a true custom fit is what should always be offered, it may even be a legal requirement. For example, when providing custom inserts for diabetes care under US Medicare, it is required that the design is built from the scan surface, and not a pre-made design template, to comply with regulatory coding.
